Beads Build Bridges

Welcome friends! My name is Moreau Halliburton, I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and I'm the director/producer/editor of Beads Build Bridges. In September of 2022 I traveled outside of the US for the first time to Accra, Ghana. My goals were to learn alongside bead makers, collaborate with musicians, work with children, and (as a Black American) reconnect with my African roots.

When I first arrived, I met Mr. Cedi of Cedi Beads Industry in Odumase Krobo and was immediately inspired by his family's life-long work in the bead industry. It felt right to ask how I could contribute to the preservation of their family history and Krobo bead making practices.

We decided that through the intimate process of filmmaking, we would be able to document Krobo bead making for generations to come. The film would also act as a vehicle for worldwide appreciation for Krobo people and their eco-friendly resourcefulness when it comes to bead production. The film highlights the value of handmade beads for those who create them.

Beads Build Bridges: The People Behind the Craft (Recycled Glass Krobo Beads) emerged from a cross-cultural friendship. Working alongside Mr. Cedi and his family to create my first short film was a challenging and rewarding experience. I look forward to sharing my film with you!
